About the King Library
In the library, we learn to be:
-
critical thinkers
-
enthusiastic readers
-
skillful researchers
-
ethical users of information
The King School Library is a tremendous resource for students, staff, and families. Our collection of over 35,000 items includes books, DVDs, videos, reference sources, professional books, leveled readers, and other materials for educational use. Our main collection includes picture books, chapter books, nonfiction books, graphic novels, and many titles in languages other than English that are available for our diverse student population.
All King School students receive thirty minutes of library instruction each week. The library program is aligned with Urbana School District’s English/Language Arts Curriculum as well as the Illinois Standards Aligned Instruction for Libraries (I-SAIL) document and emphasizes the teaching of literature appreciation and information literacy skills.
One of the library’s primary goals is to help students independently locate books they are excited about reading. In addition to library instruction, students in first through fifth grades return to library for a dedicated ten minute checkout time each week to help instill in them the habits of lifelong readers.

About the King Librarian
My name is Amy Webb, and this is my fifth year as librarian at King School. I previously worked 3 years as a high school librarian, 1 year as a junior high librarian, and 8 years as a primary librarian. I've also worked in college, university and public libraries, but school libraries are my favorite!
Before becoming a librarian, I worked as a 4th grade teacher's aide and taught 5th grade for two years. When I'm not working, I enjoy reading, working and walking outdoors, and hanging out with Mr. Webb and our three kids.
